چکیده

We explain the origin of the unusual large isotopic dependence found in charge-transfer cross sections for H(D,T)+ + Be collisions. We show that this large effect appears in a semiclassical treatment as a consequence of the mass dependence of the charge-transfer transition probabilities, which is due to the variation of the radial velocity in the region where the nonadiabatic transitions take place. The possibility of finding such a large isotope effect in other collision systems is discussed.

Modeling Magnetic Field in Heavy ion Collisions Using Two Different Nuclear Charge Density Distributions

By studying the properties of matter during heavy-ion collisions, a better understanding of the Quark-Gluon plasma is possible. One of the main areas of this study is the calculation of the magnetic field, particularly how the values of conductivity affects this field and how the field strength changes with proper time. In matching the theoretical calculations with results obtained in lab, two diffe...

Ion current as a precise measure of the loading rate of a magneto-optical trap.

We have demonstrated that the ion current resulting from collisions between metastable krypton atoms in a magneto-optical trap can be used to precisely measure the trap loading rate. We measured both the ion current of the abundant isotope 83Kr (isotopic abundance=11%) and the single-atom counting rate of the rare isotope 85Kr (isotopic abundance∼1×10(-11)), and found the two quantities to be p...

Spin controlled atom-ion inelastic collisions

The control of ultracold collisions between neutral atoms is an extensive and successful field of study. The tools developed in this field allow for ultracold chemical reactions to be managed using magnetic fields1, light fields2 and spin-state manipulation of the colliding particles3 among other methods. Control of chemical reactions in ultracold atom-ion collisions is a young and growing fiel...

X-ray production by ion bombardment

2014 The available experimental and theoretical results on ion induced X-rays are briefly surveyed. From experimental data it may be concluded that the mechanism for inner shell excitation by heavy ion-atom collisions is different from that for proton-atom collisions. The latter are described successfully in Plane Wave Born Approximation (PWBA) and in classical Binary Encounter Approximation (B...
